HSV desperate again at Holstein Kiel
In the seventh attempt, HSV fails to win the north duel against Kiel. The Kiel only need 47 seconds after half to equalize the game. The draw doesn’t help either team. Meanwhile, the Hamburgers are drawing attention to dyslexia with an action.
Holstein Kiel remains an insurmountable hurdle for Hamburger SV. Even in the seventh attempt, the promotion candidate did not win against the northern rivals from the 2nd Bundesliga: Both teams separated 1: 1 (1: 0).
The division of points does not advance any of the north rivals. Hamburg remain sixth, Kiel on the relegation place. Ole Werner’s successor Marcel Rapp is also waiting for his first win in his fifth competitive game as Kiel coach.
In the first half, Hamburg was the dominant team. That could not prevent the first starting XI of ex-HSV professional Lewis Holtby. Sonny Kittel gave Hamburg the lead in front of 39,543 spectators in the Volksparkstadion with a penalty (12th minute). But the Kielers also had their options. Pichler hit aluminum twice (7th, 25th), Fin Bartels failed in a counterattack against the strongly reacting substitute keeper Marko Johansson (41st).
The Hamburg lead only lasted for 47 seconds after the break: Benedikt Pichler equalized with a full shot from the edge of the penalty area (46th). After that, the Kielers were the leading eleven in the second round and played with more passion. The ex-Hamburger Fiete Arp failed in a counterattack on the HSV keeper (71st).
Rivals also weaken
The hosts, who had to do without regular goalkeepers Daniel Heuer Fernandes and Tim Leibold due to injuries for the first time this season, could not take advantage of the opportunity: Because three rivals placed in front of them in the fight for promotion (St. Pauli, Schalke 04, Nuremberg) had also not won and lost points. “Of course we are all not satisfied with the draw. But we shouldn’t fundamentally question our playing system now,” said HSV right-back Moritz Heyer after the game on the Sky microphone.
The focus was not only on football: the Hamburgers use the game to draw attention to reading and spelling disorders. The shirts of professionals Heyer and Jonas Meffert were intentionally flocked incorrectly. Instead, the names “Heya” and “Meffort” could be read on the jerseys. “An estimated 6.2 million people in Germany can not or only inadequately read and write,” said the HSV about the campaign. Three million of these people are affected by dyslexia, the reading and spelling disorder.
