The DHB team achieved the necessary victory (35:28) in the evening game against Hungary in order to maintain their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals. With 5 points, Germany is in second place behind the already qualified French ahead of the final game against Croatia, who have already been eliminated, on Wednesday. Hungary (against France) and Austria (against Iceland) – who each have 4 points – can still hope, but are dependent on help.

France stops Austria

In the 3rd main round game, the 6th overall in the final round, Austria left the field as losers for the first time. In Cologne, despite a narrow half-time lead (16:15) and a strong performance, the result was a 28:33 defeat against France. The multiple world and European champion bought his ticket to the semi-finals early. Sweden and Denmark have also already qualified.

The French could count on the support of the German fans, who whistled at many Austrian attacks. The majority of the audience in Cologne cheered twice.
