Is Hansi Flick going back to the DFB? Whether his future is the office of national coach also depends largely on his family.

The fact that FC Bayern Munich was kicked out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening despite a win against Paris Saint Germain caused coach Hansi Flick (56) immediately afterwards to have an unusually intense need to speak. Connected to the Sky studio via video and asked about his future, Flick held a monologue for several minutes in which he surprisingly also spoke about his family.

He actually likes to keep his wife Silke, their two daughters and two grandchildren out of the public eye. When asked whether he will take over the office of national coach from the outgoing Joachim Löw (61) and what his family would say about it, he then gave some private insights. “No matter what I do, she would always support me and will always stand behind me. (…) It is crucial for her that I enjoy the job. That is what my family wants me to do. That is why she will be in everyone To stand behind me for things, no matter how my decision is made. That is a good feeling, “says Flick, who is sure of the support of his family.

His wife as an advisor

As DFB assistant coach under Löw from 2006, Flick also played a key role in shaping the team that matured into world champions in 2014. In 2019 he became first co-coach and later head coach of FC Bayern, immediately got the triple and was named coach of the year.

A constant in Hansi Flick’s long football career is his wife Silke. “I’ve known her since she was 15. I was 18, that’s 37 years now,” said Flick at the end of 2020 in an equally rare interview with “Bunte”. “We have come a long way together and talked about a lot. She often had a different perspective on things, which often opened my eyes to then going in the right direction.” Maybe this direction will soon lead back to the DFB.
