After almost 30 years, a sequel to “Happy Gilmore” is to be released. Adam Sandler confirms he’s working on it.

Almost three decades ago, in 1996, Adam Sandler (57) played the lead role in “Happy Gilmore”. Now the all-rounder is finally planning a sequel. Sandler himself confirms previous reports. “We’re working on it,” says Sandler on the “Dan Patrick Show” when he was asked about “Happy Gilmore 2”.

Together with Tim Herlihy (57), Sandler was already responsible for the script for the first part – and now his colleague is back on board. “Me and [Tim] “Herlihy are eager to create a good reason for everyone to come and have a good time,” explains the actor and comedian.

The hasty Christopher McDonald

In the “The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima” Christopher McDonald (69) had previously spoken about the script. The actor, who plays shooter McGavin on “Happy Gilmore,” said on the radio show that he met Adam Sandler about two weeks earlier. On this occasion he showed him the first draft of the script. “Well, that would be great,” McDonald thought. “So, it’s in the works. The fans are demanding it, damn it,” he continued.

Sandler now points out that McDonald shouldn’t actually reveal the whole thing, but he doesn’t seem to be angry with him. He’s currently shooting another film, then he wants to get together with Herlihy again to continue working on “Happy Gilmore 2.” They already have “a million ideas,” but there is still a lot of work ahead of the duo. The two of them simply had to “make it all into a film.” It is particularly important that the fans enjoy the second part: “It’s important, we love ‘Happy Gilmore’, we don’t want to let anyone down. People have been talking about it for many years. […] We’ll work hard and make sure it’s good.”

What is apparently certain is that the film will end up on Netflix if it ever appears. Sandler has been making films for the streaming service for several years and now explains: “Netflix is excited about it.”
