What a great honor for the two ZDF presenters Harald Lesch (63) and Mirko Drotschmann (37). On Monday (October 9th), the two “Terra Drotschmann received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon, Lesch even received the Cross of Merit 1st Class.

The justification for Drotschmann’s award states that he managed to gain young people as followers, even though he taught school material. His channel “Terra X History”, formerly “MrWissen2Go Geschichte”, also conveys general knowledge, history and politics. And the whole thing is not only understandable, but also presented in an exciting way. There is hardly anyone in Germany’s schools who is not familiar with Drotschmann’s explanatory videos and teachers often use his digital formats to supplement lessons.

That’s why Harald Lesch strengthens our democracy

Professor Doctor Harald Lesch, on the other hand, communicates research to an audience of millions – on television, online, in schools. The physics professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich knows how to present complex relationships in such a way that even a layperson can understand them. In this way, he arouses an interest in natural sciences, especially among young people. He also repeatedly gets involved in the public education debate and has been committed to teacher training for years. He strengthens our democracy because he always shows how to distinguish fake from facts.

Peter Ahrens, head of ZDF’s main editorial department for history and science, congratulated the two “Terra , more important than ever.” Lesch and Drotschmann would have made a special contribution here.
