NETFLIX

Even George RR Martin’s involvement couldn’t save this series: “Nightflyers” has already been canceled and will now be permanently deleted from Netflix.

There hasn’t been a flop from the “Game of Thrones” universe yet – certainly because HBO carefully selects all spin-offs and either stops wanderers in time or doesn’t order them at all. But interest in more Westeros doesn’t automatically mean that series fans are interested in every George RR Martin story.

The busy Martin, who seems to do everything he can to avoid having to finish writing “The Winds of Winter”, is also active as a series and video game producer and, in addition to the “Game of Thrones” books, also wrote short stories for the series. Wild Cards” and “Nightflyers”.

In 2018, the US broadcaster SyFy decided to turn “Nightflyers” into a series that would of course benefit from Martin’s prominent name. Internationally, Netflix secured the rights to the series, which was canceled after one season in 2019.

Now, four years later, the last hour has come for “Nightflyers” – at least in Germany. On December 13, 2023, Netflix will delete the series from its program, making “Nightflyers” homeless in this country.

Even if a sequel to “Nightflyers” was never expected, the current Netflix deletion shows again how quickly streaming productions can disappear. A difficult day for the small but certainly existing “Nighflyers” fan base.
