Hard hit for Lidl: Cheap Thermomix alternative must be changed

Another decision has been made in the battle between Lidl and Vorwerk. This time, a court ruled against the discounter. Read here what this means for the cheap Thermomix alternative.

The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court has made a decision in the legal dispute between Vorwerk and Lidl. Accordingly, the discounter’s “Monsieur Cuisine Connect” would infringe Vorwerk’s patent rights. As “Spiegel” reports, the patents concerned a heating mechanism in the “Monsieur Cuisine Connect“. This is said to have resembled the heating mechanics of Vorwerk’s Thermomix too much.

The decision comes as quite a surprise and is a hard blow for Lidl. Because a court in Spain had previously decided that the patent rights had not been violated. Since Lidl sells the device in several countries, the patent lawsuit will also be heard in court there.

Some variants of the “Monsieur Cuisine Connect” infringe Vorwerk’s patent rights. The main focus here is on techniques that still enable dishwasher use with even heating. In future there will probably no longer be any new devices with these components.

The first changes to the lawsuit can already be seen in Lidl’s online shop. The note “With modified heating element” can be read there. Customers can therefore continue to purchase the “Monsieur Cuisine”. Tests have to show to what extent this differs from the other devices in terms of performance and cooking results.
