Hard lockdown in three regions: Eastern Austria is closing itself off

Hard lockdown in three regions
Eastern Austria seals itself off

In view of the high number of infections and busy clinics, Vienna is pulling the ripcord: In the capital and two other federal states, strict measures will apply from Thursday, the shops will have to close again. In the rest of the country, however, they remain open – even on Good Friday.

Parts of Austria will go into lockdown again on Thursday. The federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland in the east of the Alpine republic are affected. The British Corona variant is particularly rampant there. The utilization of the intensive care beds in the clinics is high. The seven-day incidence in the three federal states is between 280 and 340.

Across Austria, around 260 people per 100,000 inhabitants have been shown to have contracted the virus in the past seven days. The measure applies in the three affected federal states until April 10th. With the exception of the usual daily needs, all shops have to close. Museums and zoos are also no longer allowed to be visited.

On top of that, there are exit restrictions all day. Outdoor recreation is also a good reason to leave your home. Worship services are allowed under compliance with very strict hygiene rules. There is no tightening for the rest of the country. Here shops stay open on Good Friday, for example.
