For one of his next roles, Robert Downey Jr. did not hesitate to undertake a complete physical transformation. As our colleagues from Hitek report, the Iron Man star was indeed seen on the set of his new series, The Sympathizer, in Los Angeles: curly and bald red hair, discolored eyebrows, his change in appearance is total as you can see below!
Adapted from the eponymous novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen (2015) which received the Pulitzer Prize, The Sympathizer tells the story of a French-Vietnamese man, a spy for the communist forces during the Vietnam War, living the last days of this conflict. history before going into exile in Los Angeles.
The miniseries, created by Park Chan-Wook (Decision To Leave) and Don McKellar and billed as a satirical spy thriller, will feature Hoa Xuande in the lead role and Robert Downey Jr. and Sandra Oh, among others, in secondary roles.
A FILMED PREPARATION
Robert Downey Jr. had been preparing for the shoot since last October when he asked his sons to shave his head, a video he later posted to his Instagram account.
“The things we do for our jobs…and our children. Ready for the filming of Sympathizer“, he had then written.
But The Sympathizer isn’t Robert Downey Jr.’s only project this year. The actor will indeed star in Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited Oppenheimer, a biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb” during World War II worn by Cillian Murphy. Also in the cast of the feature film, some very beautiful people: Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, and many others. The film will be released on our screens on July 19, 2023.
