Smartphones are coming these days with ever larger memories – up to 512 GB are on board in expensive flagship models. But anyone who owns a cheap cell phone and has not inserted a memory card will quickly reach the limits of storage capacity in 2021. There are simple ways to free up additional memory – the simplest is probably the cache.
However, many users do not seem to be aware of this simple option. In fact, a recent survey by the US technology portal Android Authority showed that almost half of those surveyed had never used this option of freeing up phone memory. We will show you how to clear your apps cache with just a few clicks and what this word means.
Clear cache: It’s that easy
Basically, caching is a useful technology – apps use it to store data in the background that is accessed frequently, such as websites. This means that this data does not have to be downloaded again every time. However, over time, a large amount of data accumulates on the smartphone. Browser apps such as Chrome or Opera and social media are particularly affected and often have caches of several GB. If you delete these from time to time, a lot of storage space will be freed up.
To clear an app’s cache, go to its information page in Settings. There you will find an entry showing how much storage space the app is using. Click on this one. Then you can see how big the cache is and you can empty it with one click.
If that is too cumbersome for you, you can also use a one-click solution. Many Android manufacturers supply an optimization app for their devices, which often includes a cache cleaner. Use this to clear the cache of all installed apps.
