Caution: These hairstyles will damage your hair

Warning, girls, too tight a braid or a tightly twisted bun? These hairstyles damage and ruin your hair.

Sleeker looks or a teased mane are not good for your hair in the long run. Hard to take, especially for beauty junkies, but we should listen better here. Because these hairstyles destroy the hair structure, roughen it up or make it thinner. Which are the worst? We’ll tell you about them and show you a healthy alternative.

1. The sleek look

It’s always trendy: straightening hair with a straightening iron creates a nicer structure and conjures up a cool look. However, if we treat the hair with heat every day, it becomes straw-like and gets split ends. Our alternative? Of course, ALWAYS use heat protection and only set the styling tool to a low level. Smooth out the tips more slowly. This way they stay in shape for a longer period of time.

2. Bobby pins in top hair

With clips in the hair, individual or protruding strands can be secured and the hairstyle gets more hold. But be careful: the metal clips with the sharp edges can damage the hair because they put a lot of pressure on the hair. Our alternative? It is better to use bun needles, these are gentler on the structure. The same applies here: Don’t always choose the same hairstyle, prefer variety.

3. The strict braid

A high braid tied tightly back looks cool, but will damage your hair. On the one hand due to the friction with the ponytail, on the other hand because we pull the hair too tight. The hair follicles can break off at the base and the hair growth is disrupted. Our alternative? Instead of a regular hair tie, choose a synthetic resin hair tie in the shape of a phone cord (such as an Invisibobble).

4. The high bun

The high bun presents the same hair problem as with a tight braid. Our alternative? The bun should be worn gently at different heights, sometimes as a ballerina bun, sometimes tied very low in the neck. This means that the hair is not stressed as much and stays healthier in the long term. A messy tied bun also looks casual.

5. The full head of hair

If the volume is missing in the right places, then we like to reach for the teasing comb and push the hair upwards in the direction of growth. In this way, the scales are hooked together, the structure is roughened and the hair has more hold. The problem: If we rough up the structure more often, this damages the hair in the long run and makes it thinner and fiddly. Our alternative? It is better to use a structuring spray, spray it on wet hair and blow-dry it upside down. If you cannot do without the backcombing technique, use a brush instead of a comb. Cast combs and combs made of aluminum roughen the hair too much.
