Harry and Meghan: four details from their greeting card that prove they want to break with tradition

Year-end cards have been a long-standing British tradition, one that the Duke and Duchess never seem to be giving up on. But, once again, they decided to do things their own way. Decryption.

This Thursday, December 23, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex published their eagerly awaited and astonishing greeting card 2021. Surprising, because we discover – finally – the face of the pretty little Lilibet, known as “Lili” but also Archie, become an adorable little redhead, like his dad. The whole family appears very relaxed on the doorstep, undoubtedly that of their sumptuous Californian villa.

If the photo is rather informal and denim is far from banned among the “Royals”, Prince Harry has chosen to push the vice by wearing jeans with holes and posing without shoes… A first for a Windsor-Mountbatten and a nice snub to the very strict dress codes imposed on members of the royal family. For her part, Meghan Markle remains true to her elegant style in usual neutral tones with a navy blue sweater and nude ballerinas.

A planned photo shoot

Rather than using, as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did this year, a photo taken on vacation For their 202 greeting card, the Sussexes preferred to call on the famous celebrity photographer, Alexi Lubomirski. The latter is already known to the young couple since he also had immortalized their engagement then, their marriage a year later. “I have such a happy memory of this day spent with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, writes the photographer on his Instagram account on the occasion of the publication of the map. I feel very lucky to have had the privilege of taking pictures of them ”.

A loving word to their fans

Rather than using the usual phrasing of the traditional greeting cards of other members of the Royal Family of England, Harry and Meghan chose to use a very American expression, namely “Happy Holidays”. A good formula more inclusive because it does not target only people who celebrate Christmas but more generally refers to the end of the year holidays.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also drafted a little sweet word addressed to their many fans. In this message, the couple are delighted to see their family grow with the arrival of little Lili last June and reveal that the charming Archie calls his parents “Mama” and “Papa”. A touching detail.

Charities at the heart of their message

Since their hasty departure from the royal family, Harry and Meghan have struggled to establish themselves as an entity independent in order to support the charities that are dear to them. The couple thus created the Archewell Foundation in October 2020 and the Duchess of Sussex recently spoke to advocate for parental leave for all Americans.

It is in this process that they have included a number ofcharities in their greeting card, to encourage their fans to donate to them this holiday season. A good nice initiative.
