Harry and Meghan: their trip to Africa tops all royal travel expenses

Harry and Meghan enjoyed a ten-day trip to Africa last fall. It was officially the most expensive royal trip in 2019.

Prince Harry (36) and Duchess Meghan (39) took the most expensive trip of the British royals in 2019. The trip to South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi in September was her last official trip as members of the royal family and is said to have cost taxpayers nearly a quarter of a million pounds. According to the British newspaper "Daily Mail", this is evident from the accounts that have now been published.

In numbers: The ten-day trip, on which Harry and Meghan had over 20 appointments and were accompanied by son Archie (1), is said to have cost 245,643 pounds (around 268,500 euros). A few months later, in January 2020, the couple announced that they were stepping down as senior royals. Since then, they have lived in the US, where they signed a multi-million dollar contract with the streaming service Netflix.

Charles, William and Kate follow

Behind the travel expenses for Meghan and Harry's Africa trip is Prince Charles (71 )’s trip to Oman. In January 2020 he flew to the Middle East for two days to pay his last respects to the late Sultan Kabus bin Said. According to the "Daily Mail", 210,345 pounds (around 230,300 euros) were raised for this. In third place are Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (38). Her five-day trip to Pakistan in October 2019 is said to have cost 117,116 pounds (around 128,000 euros).
