Weekly ‘Harry Potter’ Movies Airing Until Christmas: Starting in late autumn, the beloved ‘Harry Potter’ films will return to weekly broadcasts on free TV. We’ve compiled all the airing dates for you!

If you’re a true ‘Harry Potter’ enthusiast, you’re likely familiar with both the iconic books featuring the lightning-scarred hero and the immensely popular film series. You may have noticed that there are several discrepancies between the original literary works and their cinematic adaptations.

Translating a book directly into a film format is a challenging endeavor. Many plotlines, both minor and major, often get cut to keep the film’s runtime manageable. Additionally, some nuances don’t translate well from page to screen.

Some characters have also been omitted from the film adaptations, despite being favorites among book fans. Here, we reveal 12 differences between the ‘Harry Potter’ movies and the books.

The Creators of the Marauder’s Map

The ‘Marauder’s Map’ plays a crucial role in the third installment of ‘Harry Potter.’ This enchanted map reveals Peter Pettigrew’s true identity.

While the film introduces us to Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs as the creators of this handy magical object, it doesn’t explicitly mention who they are. Viewers are left to piece together that these characters represent Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter.

A significant plot point in the book is that all the Marauders, except for Lupin, are unregistered Animagi. This detail explains how Sirius managed to escape from Azkaban and how Peter hid with the Weasley family for years.

Two Tasks Missing in ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’

In the finale of ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,’ Harry, Ron, and Hermione must rely on each other and demonstrate their individual strengths. Five teachers set five dangerous challenges to protect the Sorcerer’s Stone.

In the film, the trio puts Fluffy, the three-headed dog (Hagrid’s test), to sleep, navigates a sneak-snare (Professor Sprout’s test), chases a magical key on a broomstick (Professor Flitwick’s test), and plays a giant game of Wizard’s Chess (Professor McGonagall’s test). Ultimately, Harry discovers the Sorcerer’s Stone using the Mirror of Erised (Professor Dumbledore’s test).

Despite these numerous trials, author J.K. Rowling felt it wasn’t sufficient.

In the book, there are two additional challenges. Rowling aimed for the magical number seven, which recurs throughout the Harry Potter universe.

This means that Professor Snape’s and Professor Quirrell’s tasks are absent. In the novels, Hermione shines in Snape’s challenge, where she has to solve a logic puzzle to identify which two potions will allow Harry to advance and return safely.

Quirrell’s task involves battling a troll. Since Harry, Ron, and Hermione had already encountered a troll in the girls’ bathroom, Rowling opted to skip this segment. Quirrell had already completed the challenges before Harry and his friends, which means the troll is defeated, allowing them to simply step over it.
