The web begins to panic: what if Harry Potter The Hogwarts Legacy was finally postponed for another year? Let’s take stock of all the rumors that can be found in recent days. State of Play in February, development in the final phase, Warner Bros in trouble or even a release postponed to 2023? Who to believe among all these insiders who disseminate information contradicting each other?
Avalanche Software: the only reliable source of information
It is not a question here of questioning the reliability of certain insiders but rather of reminding you that as long as nothing is official, then it is better to be content to look at what the developers themselves of the game have to tell us . The problem is that communication at Avalanche Software isn’t as effective as fans hoped. A simple tweet to announce the postponement of the game in February 2021 for 2022, and a simple tweet to indicate that new information about Hogwarts Legacy will be released this year.
Here is one thing that is certain: we will have news of the game very soon. When exactly, we don’t know but Warner Bros and Avalanche Software intend to communicate in the coming weeks. Especially since now is the right time to do so, after the success of the Back to Hogwarts, the reunion show for the stars of the Harry Potter films, twenty years later. Remember that WB is rather hesitant about communication around the game. Even if everything is visibly ready (promotional assets in particular), recent dramas linked to JK Rowling worry the publisher about the reception of the title. Moreover, a trailer should obviously have been broadcast during the Game Awards in December 2021, but WB preferred to show us a teaser of Wonder Woman.
Place for theories and recent rumors
Everything that follows relates only to rumors raised by a few notorious insiders. In general, these people are journalists or analysts working closely with the publishers and developers concerned. Very often, their tweets turn out to be true but as usual, we must be careful between simple theories and information leaks. Currently, three notable pieces of information have emerged on Twitter:
- There will potentially be a State of Play in February : a big Sony conference, like the one where Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy had just been officially announced. Source.
- The game should be released sooner than expected. Source.
- During a SacredSymbol podcast, journalist Colin Moriarty indicated that the game will have internal issues and therefore won’t be released until 2023. Source.
With these three pieces of information, you suspect that there is a slight problem: the last two are absolutely contradictory. It must be admitted thatin 2022, Warner Bros has planned to release 5 big games during the year: Gotham Knights, Harry Potter, Suicide Squads, MultiVersus and LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. Even if we consider that MultiVersus (a free-to-play Smash Bros.) is perhaps less important than the other titles, there are still four Triple A to place. We then imagine a big release per season: Lego at the beginning of the year for example (so very soon, Gotham Knights in the spring, Suicide Squads this summer and why not Harry Potter this winter. This is what seems the most logical after all but it’s hard to theorize on so little information (none of these games have a specific release date yet).
As a reminder, Rachel Wakely, general manager of Warner Bros, had probably announced that the game would be released after the third installment of Fantastic Beasts in the cinema, on April 8, 2022.
Furthermore, the development of Harry Potter appears to be in its final stages since the few Jobs from Avalanche Software include title localization and design tweaks.
Note that the official site still shows a release in 2022 for the moment and that several resale brands have already put the game on pre-order. This does not mean anything officially since the stores in question are based on the same information as us, players. In short, it is difficult to say, at the present time, who is right. Especially since the recent playstation blog of the 22 most anticipated titles of 2022 is not very reassuring: no trace of Harry Potter. Other games are missing so let’s not panic and wait for the famous official information that Avalanche must communicate in the coming weeks.
Let’s hope that a State of Play will take place in February and that it will present us with a new Hogwarts Legacy gameplay trailer and above all a release date!
