There is hardly a person in the world who hasn’t heard of Harry Potter. After the eight films based on the seven books by author Joanne K. Rowling were a massive success for Warner Bros. Studios, a series based on the original story is now to be created.

On the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max), the seven books will become seven seasons of series. These are to be published over a period of ten years. JK Rowling will also executive produce the project.

Harry Potter Series: Start Date – When and where can you watch the Harry Potter series?

The “Harry Potter” series will probably appear on the US streaming service Max in 2026. The US magazine Variety reports that this was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

HBO productions usually end up on Sky and the associated streaming service Wow shortly after their US release, but Max could have been launched in Germany by 2026.

Warner Bros. Discovery is keen to launch the series as soon as possible. This means that the studios can finally make use of the valuable film rights that have not been used since the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2”.

Harry Potter series: Is the series also coming to Netflix and Amazon?

It is initially unlikely that the “Harry Potter” series will be included in the programming of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. After all, there is a ten-year plan for the series at Max and there is a lot of hope that it will bring new subscribers to the streaming service Max.

Harry Potter series: trailer

You’ll probably have to wait a long time for a trailer for the “Harry Potter” series. We don’t expect a first trailer for the series until 2025 at the earliest. However, a small teaser clip has already been released that officially announced the series in April 2023.

Harry Potter series: plot

The plot is already pretty clear, as the seven seasons of the series adapt the story of Joanne K. Rowling’s seven novels. They revolve around the orphan boy Harry Potter, who grows up with his aunt and uncle in a small English town. But on his 11th birthday he is confronted with the fact that he is actually a wizard, just like his deceased parents, and that in the future he should attend Hogwarts boarding school, the school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Over the years he repeatedly comes face to face with what is probably the most evil wizard in the history of the world: Voldemort, whose actually fatal curse Harry survived as a baby. Fans of the books hope that the series goes into much more detail than was possible with the films. The numerous differences between the Harry Potter books and films could finally become an issue in the series.

For example, Ginny Weasley’s role could finally be better developed. Peeves the Poltergeist could also finally make his on-screen debut in the series after being completely eliminated from the films.

Harry Potter Series: Cast – Who plays Snape, Dumbledore and Co?

No actor or actress has been officially cast for the “Harry Potter” series. It is unlikely that the three main stars of the films – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – will appear in the series.

At least Daniel Radcliffe, who played the role of Harry Potter in the film series, has already commented on a potential cameo appearance to the US magazine Comicbook.com. He has not been asked about it, nor is he in any way interested in appearing in the series. “[…] I of course wish them all the luck in the world and I’m really looking forward to passing the torch. But I don’t think it takes me to physically pass it on.”

Those responsible for casting will certainly choose young actors and actresses who are as close as possible to the actual age of the book characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, so as not to end up with the same problem as “Stranger Things”, for example. Due to the many unexpected postponements caused by the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes, the Netflix series is now struggling with the fact that its actors are now actually far too old for their roles.

We expect the “Harry Potter” series to cast mostly newcomers, as it would be a very strong restriction for established actors and actresses to sign on to a series that would tie them down for the next ten years.

Harry Potter Series: Production

Joanne K. Rowling as well as Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts are executive producers of the Max series. David Heyman, who developed the films, is also in talks to be a producer. In addition to Warner Bros. Television, Rowling’s production company Brontë Film and TV is also involved.

No director has been linked to the project yet. However, David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films as well as the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” films, has already said that he has not yet been approached for the series. However, he has enough other projects on his table and is very happy to leave the Harry Potter films behind and concentrate on new things. But he doesn’t completely rule out a return to the Potterverse: “Never say never” (via Deadline).

But the big priority is to find a showrunner for the series. It is also not possible to start casting beforehand. We are also currently looking for screenwriters. Interviewed are Francesca Gardiner, Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan. However, a decision should not be made until June 2024 (via Deadline).
