The doors of Hogwarts will soon open on HBO’s streaming service, Max. The first season of the series Harry Potter, adapted from JK Rowling’s phenomenon saga, will arrive in 2026, as announced this Friday by David Zaslav, the boss of Warner Bros. Discovery.
A highly anticipated series
Announced in 2023, the series Harry Potter is expected to span seven seasons, each of which adapts a novel from this fantastic saga. As reported by the magazine VarietyZaslav recently met with Rowling to discuss the progress of the project.
“We had a great time with JK and his team“, declared Zaslav, who was accompanied by Casey Bloys (the boss of HBO and Max) and Channing Dungey (president of Warner Bros. Television) during the meeting.
“Both parties are just excited to revive this franchise. Our discussions have been great and we couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead. We look forward to sharing a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max. We are aiming for a start in 2026.“
A veteran of Succession at the helm of the show?
If JK Rowling will be executive producer of the series Harry Potter, it is not yet officially known who will occupy the position of showrunner. In January, Warner Bros. invited several screenwriters to present their ideas for this new adaptation and the latest news, Francesca Gardiner would be among the finalists expected for the job.
Consulting producer on seasons 3 and 4 of SuccessionGardiner also served as executive producer of the series His Dark Materials (adapted from the literary saga At the crossroads of worlds by Philip Pullman) and wrote for the series The Rook And The Man In The High Castle.
The series Harry Potter will begin broadcasting in 2026 on Max, HBO’s new streaming platform. In France, programs from the American cable channel and its SVOD service are currently available on Prime Video via the Warner Pass. But Max will arrive in our country next summer, and it is not impossible that by the time the series Harry Potter arrives on our screens, his house in France has changed address. The Digitals will obviously keep you informed on the issue.
