Harry Potter: the play The Cursed Child finally adapted to the cinema?

Will Harry Potter return to the big screen soon? This is what is rumored at the moment in Hollywood.

In boxes from Warner Bros. for 6 years, will the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child finally be adapted to the cinema?

As a reminder, the story takes place 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows, as the characters struggle with the pitfalls of adulthood.

A daily life that becomes severely complicated when Albus, the youngest son of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, must save the Magic World like his father before him.

On November 3, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav had said the bespectacled wizard franchise needed to be revived. Taking advantage of the announcement of Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, he also confided that the last Son of Krypton was also a priority for the studio.

“We haven’t made a Superman movie in 13 years. [9 ans en réalité car Man of Steel est sorti en 2013]. We haven’t made a Harry Potter feature film in 15 years [Harry Potter et les reliques de la mort est sorti il y a 11 ans]. These DC and Harry Potter blockbusters have made a lot of money for the studio over the past 25 years.”said David Zaslav, interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter.

After the commercial failure of the 3rd opus of Fantastic Beasts and the affair of the eviction of Johnny Depp, replaced by Mads Mikkelsen, the franchise of the bespectacled wizard had taken a hit in the wing.

Since taking over Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav has therefore made it clear that he intends to relaunch the saga. According to journalist Matthew Belloni, the director would have insisted with JK Rowling to put the question of the adaptation of The Cursed Child on the table.

“We’ll see if we can do something with JK Rowling to get Harry Potter moving forward”, revealed Zaslav. Between 2001 and 2011, the 8 Potter Eights generated $7.7 billion in worldwide revenue. We understand that Warner does not want to abandon the goose that lays the golden egg.

As for the Fantastic Beasts saga, it seems that it does not arouse as much enthusiasm among fans. The latest film, Dumbledore’s Secrets, was a box office disappointment, grossing just $405 million against a budget of $200 million. Yet the 3 films can boast of a nice score with 1.9 billion greenbacks in all.

According to Belloni, we would be heading towards a cinema adaptation of The Cursed Child in two films. David Zaslav would also not be against a total reboot of the saga. Either way, we won’t be going back to Hogwarts until 2025 at best.
