Harvey Weinstein appeals. In New York a year ago he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, among other things for rape.

The attorneys of the former film producer Harvey Weinstein (69) appealed on Monday against his conviction of rape and another sex crime. That reports, among other things, “CNBC”. The 69-year-old was convicted in February 2020 after a trial in New York and is serving a 23-year prison sentence. Now, according to the report, his defense lawyers submitted documents to the court to challenge the verdict.

Among other things, the lawyers claim, according to “CNBC”, that Weinstein was denied the right to an impartial jury. In addition, his defense lawyers argue that Weinstein was allegedly denied a fair trial because the jury heard allegations against Weinstein that were not the subject of the trial. They also describe Weinstein’s punishment as “harsh and excessive”.

Prosecution in Los Angeles

“We submitted a 166-page brief listing some serious errors that were made during the process,” said Weinstein’s attorney Barry Kamins, according to CNBC. The team is confident that the court will take the points listed so seriously that the judgment will have to be set aside.

In addition to the case in New York, Weinstein is threatened with a lawsuit in Los Angeles. The prosecution accused him, among other things, of raping a woman in 2013.
