Harvey Weinstein: is he being filmed continuously in jail?

The prison in which Harvey Weinstein sits allegedly wants to protect itself from conspiracy theories – and therefore has him constantly filmed.

Harvey Weinstein (68) is reportedly filmed almost around the clock behind bars. According to the US celebrity portal "TMZ", cameras record each of his movements. This is apparently intended to avoid a situation similar to that of Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019). Citing insiders from prison, "TMZ" said that a correctional officer was tasked with following Weinstein at every step. The former film producer is currently serving a sentence in the "Wende Correctional Facility", a maximum security prison in New York State.

In addition to the regular surveillance cameras, the guards, who are assigned to shadow Weinstein, are supposed to point a camera at him at eye level. According to "TMZ", he should be watched almost the whole time. The state prison allegedly wants to protect itself and avoid conspiracy theories. In the worst case, there is a lot of evidence and no one can bring charges against the prison, as happened after the death of investment banker Epstein.

Epstein's death scandal

Jeffrey Epstein died in a prison cell in August 2019. A few weeks earlier he was found unconscious with injuries to his neck. However, he was alone in his cell without observation, and the prison guards are said to have been sleeping when he passed away. His death triggered a judicial scandal, the official autopsy result of suicide was questioned by some. The sex offender, who had already been convicted at the time, was charged in 2019 with running a ring for the sexual exploitation of young people and children.

Weinstein is sick

Harvey Weinstein has numerous illnesses and ailments, including heart problems, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis, his spokesmen recently confirmed for "People" magazine. Weinstein's health was already an issue during the trial earlier this year. He looked frail and appeared in court with a walker. Following his conviction in February, he was admitted to Bellevue Hospital for high blood pressure and a racing heart. The former Hollywood producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison. A jury found him guilty of sexual assault and rape. In Los Angeles, he is also faced with a further eleven charges.
