Harvey Weinstein: million dollar comparison for his victims

Harvey Weinstein's victims are expected to receive a total of $ 19 million in compensation. This was announced by the public prosecutor.

Dozens of alleged victims of Harvey Weinstein (68) are said to receive a total of just under $ 19 million in compensation. This is reported, among others, by the US broadcaster CNN, citing the New York Attorney General. The statement cited states that Weinstein and his company have failed female employees. Now there would be some justice for victims of sexual abuse and harassment.

It is a comparison from a lawsuit filed in 2018 for "outrageous violations of civil, human and economic rights". Financial compensation is now to be created with the help of a fund to be set up. It was also part of the agreement that the women concerned were released from their confidentiality agreements and were allowed to speak openly about "their hostile working atmosphere and the experienced discrimination".

Victim lawyers criticize the deal

However, the comparison is not yet final; the competent courts still have to approve the deal. So far, however, there has been little applause from the victim side. Two lawyers for the complaining women refer to the comparison as a "sellout". One is surprised and astonished that the public prosecutor's office celebrates this as a success. It was unfair and unfair to appeal to the court. The Weinstein side has not yet commented on this.

The fallen film mogul is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York after being convicted of multiple sexual offenses. A further charge in Los Angeles is currently being prepared and could also result in another prison sentence. Weinstein still contests the offenses.
