“Has never existed before”: Klinsmann finds the World Cup “extreme” and sees a chance for the DFB-Elf

Klinsmann finds the World Cup “extreme” and sees a chance for the DFB team

In less than a month the soccer World Cup will start in Qatar. The coach of the summer fairy tale 2006, Jürgen Klinsmann, now reveals that he counts Germany and England among the favorites. In the end, the tournament would be all about the head – because of an “extreme” feature.

For the former football world champion Jürgen Klinsmann, the German national team is one of the favorites at the World Cup in Qatar. “They are among the favorites because they have so much quality,” said the 58-year-old in a podcast by the US sports portal “The Athletic” when asked how he assessed the chances of England and Germany in the upcoming tournament.

The former DFB team boss (2004 to 2006) assumes that the team that “want it the most” will win the World Cup. Klinsmann referred to the short preparation time of just one week. “There has never been anything like it before. It’s different. It’s extreme. But for everyone.”

At the beginning of the month, however, Rio hero Bastian Schweinsteiger had expressed doubts about the tournament form of the national team. “It’s a question mark at the moment. You don’t know exactly whether it will end well or not. We’ve all seen how the last few games went, so you can’t give any guarantees,” said the 2014 world champion. Basically Schweinsteiger would think it would be good to travel to Qatar with high ambitions.

Klinsmann to Kane

In the “Athletic” podcast, in which Klinsmann now talks a lot about his ex-club Tottenham Hotspur, he also comments on the future of Spurs striker Harry Kane, in which FC Bayern Munich is said to be interested. Klinsmann said he was a huge fan of Kane but couldn’t give him any advice on a possible move. “It’s a decision he’ll have to make sooner or later.” Klinsmann believes Spurs fans would forgive the England international if he switched to a top club where he would have a better chance of winning a trophy.

Kane’s contract at Tottenham expires in the summer of 2024. The 29-year-old, who joined Spurs as a youth player in 2004, has yet to win a major title. In 2019, Tottenham lost the Champions League final with Kane against Liverpool, coached by Jürgen Klopp, 0-2.
