Has telework impacted the IT security of companies?

According to a study published by the Directorate for the Animation of Research, Studies and Statistics (DARES) in February 2022, the health crisis has favored an unparalleled boom in teleworking. In January 2021, 27% of employees practice it regularly, compared to only 4% in 2019. At the same time, the threats of cyberattacks are increasing drastically. The Ministry of the Interior observes a + 31% increase between 2016 and 2020 in ransomware attacks aimed at holding company information systems hostage for sums of money. Supporting employees in their computer use, particularly remotely, is therefore a challenge for companies.

Manutan, the European leader in B to B e-commerce, is rethinking its model to integrate cybervigilance into its information system and the daily practices of its teams. To achieve this, the group relies on two key components: tailor-made tools and employee training. Encryption adapted to distance, double authentication, artificial intelligence, continuity plans, the company is continuing its efforts and adapting to new practices aimed at offering a secure and adapted work experience both on site and in telework. Indeed, when the origin of 80% of attacks is attributed to human actions, the integration of employees in this strategy becomes crucial. To telework safely, they must in particular validate educational training modules every year. They are also regularly informed about new attacks and best practices to prevent them. Finally, workshops, dedicated events and other test campaigns are offered to support all teams, at all levels of the company.

For Sylvain Coquio, director of information systems for the Manutan group, learning about new attacks, adapting and raising awareness through education are the fundamental elements of his job. It analyzes different issues and priorities for secure management of an information system, both in the office and in telework:

  1. How to limit cyber risk in business?
  2. What are the different cyber attack practices identified?
  3. How to secure remote access in teleworking and thus guarantee the integrity of sensitive company data?
  4. What is the role of technology in cyber risk management?
  5. How to get employees on board and make them aware of cyber risks?
