A 93-year-old retiree was killed in February 2019 near Toulouse. She had threatened to disinherit her 39-year-old cousin.

A 39-year-old man, tried by the Haute-Garonne Assize Court, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday May 13 for having killed his 93-year-old cousin who threatened to disinherit him. The retiree was killed at her home in Castanet-Tolosan, near Toulouse, on the night of January 31 to February 1, 2019.

She threatened to disinherit the accused, who was having financial problems, after the latter cashed 17 checks belonging to him, or more than 40,000 euros. During the trial, the accused, very involved in Catholic works in Castres, his hometown, denied having knowledge of the victim’s decision to no longer make him his universal legatee. The jurors followed the requisitions of the Advocate General, condemning him for aggravated voluntary homicide.
