Hauts-de-Seine: a nonagenarian heroically saves his cleaning lady from an atrocious death (Video)

The tragedy was averted, but the elderly couple living in 14^e floor of rue Victor Hugo in Levallois-Perret will long remember the afternoon of February 9, 2023. Jean-Luc (his first name has been changed) told Le Parisien what happened to him, and how he managed to saving the life of his 50-year-old cleaning lady. It all started when Jean-Luc and his wife heard someone screaming. “That day, my wife and I were alone in the apartment with Marie, the employee who came twice a week to clean our house. Suddenly we hear terrible screams, it was heartbreaking” he explained to the Parisian.

After looking for where these cries came from, it was by going to their room that the 91-year-old pensioner “saw these two hands clinging to the last bar of the balcony railing”. Needless to say from the top of the 14 floors, a fall would have been fatal. In shock, Jean-Luc reacted very quickly. “I followed my instinct, we do not think at this moment. I reached out with both arms and held her down.”, despite the complaints of the housekeeper in the midst of a suicide attempt. The nonagenarian thus remained there for long minutes which seemed to him interminable, while the scene was beginning to be noticed from the outsidein particular by master students located in a school just opposite the building.

A rescue in extremis

This is how Samir, Anthony and Charles-Henri all three rushed to the aid of the cleaning lady and Jean-Luc who was having more and more trouble holding her back. “I feel like it went on for hours. My wife called the fire department, I said open the door” remembers the pensioner. Arrived at the right floor, Anthony was then rescue the man in difficulty with the help of a delivery man who was on the landing. The housekeeper was thus saved. THE Parisian specifies that the couple then contacted her employers who explained that she had already attempted suicide last December and had then been placed on sick leave.
