The creator of ChatGPTOpenAI, and the giant Microsoft are accused of violating user privacy, now facing a class action across the Atlantic.
OpenAI and Microsoft, world leaders in artificial intelligence, are once again being sued in the United States. Two software engineers accuse the companies of using personal information stolen from hundreds of millions of Internet users. According to the plaintiffs, who wished to remain anonymous, the goal was simple: to use this data to train ChatGPT, DALL-E and other generative AI systems.
OpenAI and Microsoft would plunder data everywhere
The complaint, filed Tuesday September 5 in the office of the federal court in San Francisco by the firm Morgan & Morgan, accuses OpenAI and Microsoft of having collected personal data from various sources. These include social networks, cookies, analytical information, keystrokes, and other sites or applications.
This practice would immediately violate several privacy laws. Ryan Clarkson, managing partner of the firm of the same name, was in any case pleased with the work carried out by his counterparts at Morgan & Morgan. He is also hunting what he calls “BigAI”, accused of massive theft of private information, like Google.
The complaints follow one another… and are similar
The two engineers are seeking damages from the court, the amount of which has not been specified. They want the companies concerned to provide guarantees that will put an end to this abusive use of personal data.
