Before the Supercup against RB Leipzig, FC Bayern have their sights set on the first title of the season. There are still plenty of problems – not only in the tug of Harry Kane. Manuel Neuer is a “big topic of discussion”, coach Thomas Tuchel wants to “go beyond borders”.
After the successful dress rehearsal, Jamal Musiala thinks FC Bayern are “on the right track. We’ve made great strides. I think we’re in good shape for the Leipzig game,” said the young star with a view to the Supercup on Saturday (20.45 Clock / Sky and Sat.1) against the DFB Cup winner. Coach Thomas Tuchel was also satisfied after the 4:2 (3:1) against AS Monaco, even if he still saw “potential for improvement”.
For the Munich team, it’s about the first small title against RB, but above all it’s about making amends for the record champions after a chaos season in the next few weeks and months. But shortly before the start of the Mission Triple there are still enough open construction sites.
There is still a lot of unrest in the tough poker surrounding superstar Harry Kane, but all the less clarity. Tuchel is also busy occupying the goalkeeper position – especially since Yann Sommer left Inter Milan and Alexander Nübel was loaned to Stuttgart. There is no alternative for the still unfit captain Manuel Neuer. Only Sven Ulreich is currently available.
Neuer is a “big topic of discussion”
The pressure is growing on the Munich transfer committee, as Neuer’s comeback could also be delayed. According to information from “Bild”, there are “voices at Bayern that speak privately of a return only in 2024”. The current condition of the goalkeeper is a “big topic of discussion”.
On Monday, the club reported another operation on Neuer’s injured right leg. The “metal removal” was “planned”, Neuer immediately continued his advanced training. The Georgian Giorgi Mamardashvili from FC Valencia, Morocco’s national goalkeeper Bono from FC Sevilla, the Spaniard David de Gea without a club and the Pole Kamil Grabara from FC Copenhagen are traded as replacements.
Bayern’s goalkeeper need is only superimposed by speculation about the desired player Kane. According to “The Athletic”, Tottenham Hotspur also rejected another offer from Munich for the top scorer. This should now be around 100 million euros. Kane is said not to have flown to a Spurs test game in Barcelona in the evening. An indication of progress in the negotiations? Apparently not.
Bayern lack real goalscorer
Before the Supercup, Musiala tried not to dwell on the hotly debated topic. “I’m really happy with the way our team is,” said the international. A “world-class player” like Kane could “help the team, but I’m happy with what we have”. It was shown against Monaco that Bayern lack a real goalscorer after the departure of Robert Lewandowski.
Nevertheless: “All in all it was a good test with a good result,” said Tuchel: “But there is still something to be done. We have to keep up the pace. With the Supercup we now have a direct indicator. We feel good prepared, but will have to go beyond borders.”
