Tuchel gets a minority point at Klopp

In the Premier League duel of the German coaching stars, Kai Havertz sets an early exclamation point for Chelsea. But a dismissal and a penalty turn the game in the direction of Liverpool. But despite a long outnumbering, Klopp’s team doesn’t want to score any more.

Europe’s coach of the year Thomas Tuchel missed the third victory in the third Premier League game with Chelsea and still scored a respectable success. In the football cracker at Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool, the Champions League and Supercup winner scored 1-1 (1: 1) after a lead by Kai Havertz. After a red card for handball, Chelsea had to deny the second half with a minority.

After a corner from Reece James Havertz (22nd minute) scored with a remarkable header, which reminded of Uwe Seeler’s legendary hit at the back of the head, into the far corner to give the guests the lead. The Blues initially had the better chances in the fast-paced game that was aggressively led by both teams. Until the game took a dramatic turn in favor of the Reds just before the break whistle.

A header from Liverpool’s Joel Matip bounced off the crossbar. James fended off the margin from Sadio Mané with his arm and, according to video evidence, received the red card. Mohamed Salah (45 + 5) sank the penalty kick in the sold-out Anfield stadium to equalize. Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger received a yellow caution for attempting to damage the penalty spot before Salah shot.

Firmino hurt

In the second half, the Klopp-Elf first took control and put Chelsea under heavy pressure. But the guests around star striker Romelu Lukaku and Europe’s footballer of the year Jorginho occasionally came dangerously in front of the Liverpool goal. In the end, the Londoners defended the draw – a result with which Tuchel should be more satisfied than his coaching colleague after the game.

On top of that, Klopp struggled again with bad luck with injuries. Former Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, who started this season for the first time on Saturday, had to be replaced with a slight limp towards the end of the first half.
