After years of estrangement, Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon have signed an important agreement. This makes the HBO Max service available again on Prime Video in the United States.
New agreement between Warner and Amazon
It had been since September 2021 that HBO Max was no longer available through Amazon Prime Video. The reason ? A different on the extension contract, and in particular the possibility for Warner Media to collect customer data. At the time, 5 million users subscribed to HBO and HBO Max through Amazon’s platform.
This new agreement, which extends until 2024, confirms the American and international rapprochement between the two giants Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon, and seems to seal the arrival of the next HBO films and series on Prime Video in France from 2023. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but that would mean that The Last of Usfuture series derived from the universes of Game Of Thrones, Dunes or The Batman, would arrive on Prime Video. Note that HBO series such as DMZ and Peacemaker are already scheduled for December on the platform.
As a reminder, HBO programs (Game Of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Succession, Euphoria) are historically broadcast on OCS in France. But this partnership ends at the end of 2022, and pending the launch of HBO Max in France scheduled for 2024, Warner would obviously have chosen Amazon Prime Video as a transition platform.
Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced that its streaming services (HBO, HBO Max, Discovery+) have nearly 95 million subscribers worldwide. A figure far from Netflix’s 223 million and Disney’s 235 million (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+), but still impressive.
Pending confirmation from Prime Video France, the deal is a nice move for the streaming service, having recently struck another deal with Sony.
