(CercleFinance.com) – Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy) announces the acquisition of a majority stake, up to 70%, in NewGen in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, a project led by the local company Kenesjay Green which will retain the 30 % remaining.

When completed, the NewGen plant, worth more than $200 million, will be one of the largest clean hydrogen production facilities in the world. The project will save approximately 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Newgen is the French company’s third major investment in the Caribbean in the past year, following two recent announcements of HDF-developed Renewstable power plants in Guyana and Barbados.
