As a fire spread through the house where his mother and grandfather were sleeping, a four-year-old boy sounded the alarm and saved his family, as Ouest-France reported on Sunday October 16, 2022.
A terrible drama could be avoided thanks to the providential intervention of a child aged only four, as revealed by the regional daily West France Sunday October 16, 2022. The facts took place on the night of Saturday to Sunday, in a house located in Allonnes, on the outskirts of Saumur in Maine-et-Loire. The little boy in question got up in the middle of the night to go and wake up his mother. The toddler informed him that a bad smell was present in their residence. In fact, it was a fire which was spreading within the house, where the whole family slept peacefully.
“We slept upstairs and I’m a pretty heavy sleeper. He came to my room and told me ‘it stinks’ breathing in the smell of burning“, indicated the mother of the child in the columns of West France. Just two minutes later, the boy’s grandfather, who was sleeping downstairs, also told the mother about the fire. Finally, the whole family managed to get out of the house in time. “We all got out quickly. I called the fire department and it flared up.“, underlined the mother of the young boy. The latter did try to activate the electric pumping system of the well located near the house, but the seals had blown because of the fire, and the water was not accessible.
Fire in Allonnes: the family affected by the flames “lost everything”
In total, no less than 22 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to put out the fire. During this fire, 150 square meters of roofing went up in smoke, leaving the house at the mercy of the rain. “We lost everything as water dripped downstairs. Nothing is intact anymore. Fortunately, we have another house in Allonnes which had just been freed up but we have nothing left to put in it.“, indicated the owner of the house, while specifying not to have the means to pay for work to rebuild his dwelling. For his part, the Mayor of Allonnes indicated that he wished to contact charities, to enable this family to furnish their new home.
