He finds his cat 15 years after his disappearance

A man adopted a kitten, which disappeared shortly after. 15 years later, they reunited and the reunion was filled with emotion.

In 2005, an American named Charles adopted a two-month-old kitten. He called the little brown tabby cat Brandy, and got very attached to her. Only one day she disappeared. "One afternoon she went out to our garden", he recalls, delivering his story to The Associated Press. When night began to fall, he went to look for her, but he couldn't find her …

To find Brandy, Charles tried everything: touring the house and the neighborhood, going to the animal shelters in the area, putting up posters with pictures of her … Unfortunately, nothing worked. "I was very sad. I wanted her to come back because by adopting her I had the moral obligation to take care of her all her daughter", he recalls. If he feared that the little cat was dead, he hoped deep down that "someone would find her in the street and take care of her", failing to recover it.

If the disappearances of cats are unfortunately frequent, this story took a completely unexpected turn fifteen years later. Sunday February 21, 2021, Charles received a call he no longer expected: a shelter called him to tell him that Brandy had been found about 65 km from his home. "I was skeptical. I thought maybe it was a mistake. That there was a one in a million chance that it was Brandy. But after 15 years, it was really unlikely.", he says. The animal's microchip is verified, and the incredible has been confirmed: it is indeed his missing cat.

When he finds Brandy, she is very thin and suffering from malnutrition, and her claws are so long that they have damaged her paws. She weighs only 2.7 kilograms, about the same weight as when she was a kitten. The reunion was filled with emotion. "It's awesome. It's amazing. I saw her, I hugged her and she started purring. […] It was so good to have her in my hands again. arms. I cried thinking about all the years I had wasted with her ", says Charles. Unfortunately, as he currently lives in a small apartment with two other cats, he was unable to keep her with him. But he found her another loving family, since she was adopted by none other than her sister. "She doesn't have a lot of energy. But she looks very happy. She purrs a lot. She seems happy to have a home again."
