“He killed me”, the Julie Douib case shot dead by her ex-companion in court

On June 16, 2021, the victim’s ex-companion Bruno Garcia-Cruciani was sentenced to life imprisonment accompanied by a 22-year security sentence and the deprivation of parental authority. The accused admitted to the gendarmes having gone to Julie Douib’s house on Ile-Rousse in Haute-Corse with a Glock 17 pistol equipped with a silencer March 3, 2019. In shared custody, their 8 and 10 year old sons were at his home when he showed up at Julie’s home. He had shot her in their room, hitting her in the left elbow, then shot a second time without hitting her on the balcony, and finally a third time in the chest and left arm, while she was on the ground.

His neighbor Maryse Santini discovered her on the balconylying in her blood: “She simply said to me, ‘he killed me’”. This Friday, a second trial opens in Ajaccio. Julie’s father spoke of failures in the system and a lack of listening. The council of parents and brother of Julie Me Jean-Sébastien De Casalta declared: “The family of Julie Douib approaches this second trial with a heavy heart at the idea of ​​reliving this tragedy which plunged her into a mourning that will never end. For them, “justice was rendered to his martyr” in the first instance.

The couple’s children are represented by Me Francesca Seatelli who said: “The only thing we can want for these children is that they are protected”.

On the defense side, Me Gilles Antomarchi specified that they reserve their observations and questions for the Assize Court of Appeal. He will have by his side Me Jean-Paul Eon during this week of trial.
