“He knows that I am used to making speeches”: 6 films in 30 years, what Samuel. L Jackson loves his favorite director

Since 1994 and “Pulp Fiction”, Samuel L Jackson has crossed the cinema of Quentin Tarantino with memorable roles. He explains what he likes about the filmmaker.

Although he did not appear on the poster for his film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson remains a faithful member of Quentin Tarantino’s faithful, with no less than six collaborations on the filmmaker’s nine films. And even seven, if we add True Romance, the script of which was written by Tarantino.

The 30th anniversary of the film Pulp Fiction, celebrated with great fanfare in Los Angeles and bringing together a large part of the cast, gave the man nicknamed the “King of Cool” the opportunity to say why he likes shooting under the stars so much. auspices of QT

“Tarantino’s films are, above all, very character-driven works” commented the actor on the microphone of the Associated Press which covered the event. “So when you read a Tarantino script, you suddenly know that you’re going to have a lot to say, about who you are and how you feel about things, rather than reading five pages like “OK, drive fast, look this way, the car is going over a sidewalk.”

He adds : “So there’s a lot more that you have to embody as a character and bring with you to do it. Having spent years and years in theater has helped me a lot to embrace what Quentin does. And he enjoys it in another way because he knows I’m used to giving speeches, and I like that.”

Between the two, it’s a rich collaboration that began in 1994 with Pulp Fiction. But before playing Jules Winnfield in this cult film, Samuel L. Jackson had anecdotally been cast in Reservoir Dogs. An experience that he didn’t have good memories of, as he told it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2022. A bit like a sort of false start in the end.
