“He made us take…”: humiliations, drugs… Claude François ruthless with his musicians

In an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the death of Claude François, his former drummer, Neilo Feel, delivered many confidences on the former star of the song. Including the fact that the latter was sometimes ruthless with his group.

While he was at the height of his career, Claude François died in disturbing circumstances on March 11, 1978. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the death of the famous singer, Neilo Feel, his former drummer, released a book entitled Clolo and me. On the sidelines of a dedication organized at the mill of Dannemois, in Essonne, the latter, more commonly known as Nanou, granted an interview to our colleagues from the newspaper Le Parisien during which he delivered many confidences on the temperament of Claude François.

Neilo Feel first wanted to explain the reasons that led him to write this book: he was “enough to hear false things about Claude François”. The novel Cloclo et moi is therefore a dive into the daily life of the singer, often singled out for his pedophile tendencies. A first thing swept out of hand: “He liked women, especially blue-eyed blondes. But not teenagers, wrote Nanou. The latter also wanted to clear things up about the rumors that designate Claude François as a tyrant.

Neilo Feel: “Sometimes I was afraid of fainting…”

“He was very demanding, it’s true. During a concert, he could insult us in front of an audience who understood nothing about the scene. When he was angry, he slipped us messages in the lyrics of his songs. Sometimes he threw a kiss at a musician, it meant: ‘I hate you’. So yes, he was jealous, macho, touchy. But without this facet, he would never have been the star he still is”wanted to explain the former drummer of Claude François.

However, the newspaper Le Parisien revealed other anecdotes much less brilliant about the former star of French song. “To hold on, he made us take Vitascorbol (an adjunctive treatment for temporary fatigue, editor’s note). Per concert, I could lose up to 3 kg. He pushed us to exhaustion. Especially me, as a drummer. I was sometimes afraid of fainting so much I couldn’t catch my breath”, confessed Neilo Feel. Yes, Claude François was sometimes far too harsh with the people around him.
