The news fell on Twitter a few days ago, from the mouth of the main developer of the small solo mining tool ckpool: a relentless user of the software managed to play with chance and validate a block, alone.
Instead of minors are distributed the BTCs found in proportion to their provided computing power, as in a classic mining pool, this little software simply parallelizes several individual miners.
Whoever finds a block harvests 98% BTC received as a reward – 2% still going to the software developer.

According to Dr. Con Kolivas, administrator of Solo CK Pool, the miner had a tiny computing power compared to the mass of Bitcoin’s current global hashrate: he therefore had only a 1 in 5500 chance of finding a block, such an improbability that such an event would only be expected to occur once every 450 years.
