He sprinkles his ex-wife with acid, a condemned man

In 2006, a woman suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns after being sprayed with acid by her ex-husband. He has just been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On November 14, 2006, a woman was sprayed with sulfuric acid in front of her home in Chambéry, AFP reports. The assault, committed by a gloved and hooded individual, took place in front of the victim's two daughters. She was burned in the second and third degree on the face and on the body. An odious assault, that her ex-husband, Nexhmédin Dardha, was quickly suspected of being the sponsor, from Albania where he had taken refuge.

In 2004, the victim divorced the Albanian, and started her life again with another man. According to the investigation, he considered her to be "a woman to be slaughtered", considering himself humiliated. In 2006, his ex-partner had twice filed a complaint against him, for the sabotage of his vehicle and for death threats. The man being in Albania, a country which does not have an extradition agreement with France, he could not be arrested immediately after the attack. It was not until 2019 that he was arrested in Italy, then brought back to France under an international arrest warrant. His trial took place this week, AFP said.

While the two henchmen of the accused were sentenced in 2009 to ten and five years in prison, the victim had to wait no less than 14 years to see his real executioner be condemned in turn. During the trial, the general counsel, Nathalie Hermitte, called on the jurors to "make the right person carry the real weight of guilt". "He made others do dirty work, weaker than himself. He used the other as an object, so as not to get caught.", she said, stressing that the defense of this man was "by half-truths, lies, silences and denial".

For this woman, "the fear and the pain are still there", underlined his lawyer, Maître Frédéric Verron, during his plea. Using his client's words, he described the accused as a "criminal who does not go to work himself", a "aggressor who can be anyone and act at any time". Before the deliberations, the Court heard a final word from Nexhmédin Dardha, who simply said "innocent", without having a single word to address his victim.

Saturday evening November 14, the accused was convicted of "complicity in acts of torture or aggravated barbarism" and sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment by the Court of Assize of Savoy. The public prosecutor had made this requisition, asking in addition a security period increased to two thirds and a definitive ban from French territory. As for the victim and her daughters, they have changed their identity for security reasons.
