He takes his lunch with him on the plane, a very bad surprise awaits him

By taking his lunch with him on the plane, an Indonesian passenger had a very bad surprise when he landed at the airport. He was fined over $2,000. Closer explains why.

He would have done better to travel light. Monday August 1, 2022, an Indonesian passenger had an unpleasant surprise when landing in Australia. As CNews reports, he was fined 2,664 Australian dollars (1,825 euros). The cause ? He was caught with two McMuffins and a ham croissant in his backpack by border guards. It was indeed the sniffer dog Zinta who smelled the smell of sandwiches smuggled to Darwin airport. “It will be the most expensive McDonald’s meal this passenger has ever had”commented the Australian Minister of Agriculture, Murray Watt.

But by the way, why was this Indonesian passenger fined for carrying a meal from the American catering group? Well, quite simply because Australia, the country in which he landed, has very strict biosecurity legislation in order to protect the country’s agricultural industry against possible parasites or diseases.

Australia on alert

It should be noted that currently, the Australian authorities are also on alert due to the appearance of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Indonesia. All imports of meat from this country are therefore subject to controls. Although this disease poses no risk to humans, it remains highly contagious and serious for livestock.
