In the resort of Les Deux Alpes in Isère, a 29-year-old young man died after accidentally falling from a gondola on Saturday April 1. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
A stupid game that turns to tragedy. This Saturday, April 1, 29-year-old man died after accidentally falling from cable car from the resort of Les Deux Alpes, in Isère. The next day, the Grenoble prosecutor’s office indicated that an investigation had been opened and that an expert report was awaited. According to the first elements, alcohol could be at the origin of the drama.
“Two young men, 29 and 23, alcoholic, heckled in the gondola and the 29-year-old went through the Plexiglas wall”, explained the public prosecutor Eric Vaillant. The accident took place around 5 p.m., when the two men were returning to the station from the top of the slopes. The prosecution clarified that the scene was filmed by the younger of the two individuals with his phone.
A 40 meter drop
According to information from France Bleu Isère, the two young men were filming themselves while they were heckling each other, and the victim, from the height of his 1m90 and his more than 100 kilos, would have gained momentum before throwing itself against the wall. The Plexiglas would have finally yielded under its weight and the man would have tipped over into the void and made a fatal fall almost 40 meters, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré. An expertise of the cabin is scheduled and the gendarmes of the company of La Mure have been seized of the investigation.
The manager of the Deux Alpes area, Sata Group, also indicated that a psychological support unit had been set up. According to its director, Fabrice Boutet, the gondola was in perfect condition. “She had passed all the security tests. Besides, the cabin door did not open in shock, it was the window that gave way”, he explained.
