In Spain, a medical examiner had the fear of his life when he discovered that the person he had to take care of was breathing. An internal investigation has been launched to find out how such a medical error could have happened.
This is called a return to life. In Spain, last weekend, a medical examiner was brought in a corpse to determine the real causes of his death. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. But after a few routine checks, he noticed that the body that was supposed to be lifeless was… breathing. The scene took place in the hospital of Riudecanyes, in the Spanish province of Tarragona. Imagine the fright of this medical examiner…
The facts unfolded this way: an ambulance went to the home of a 64-year-old man after a person called after finding him dead. Sent on the spot, therefore, a doctor declared the death of the sexagenarian, who had been known in his neighborhood for alcoholism for many years. The doctor did not attempt to resuscitate the lifeless body because he considered his death to be unacceptable.
Sent to the morgue, the 60-year-old simply had respiratory problems
Logically taken directly to the morgue, the body was examined by the medical examiner who was on duty that day. And amazement: the latter was breathing. Transferred in emergency to the intensive care unit, he was finally saved. But faced with this huge medical blunderan internal investigation was opened to understand the real reasons for this misdiagnosis which could have been fatal. If one can logically think that this story is unique, it is not: every year, at least ten similar cases are recorded around the world.
