Éric Zemmour received an egg on Saturday March 12, while he was traveling to Moissac, in Tarn-et-Garonne. The author of the shooting came out of silence and explained his gesture in La Dépêche.
Jean-Paul Mayanobe70 years old, is a agricultural retiree. The septuagenarian launched an egg on the head of Éric Zemmour while the presidential candidate was traveling in Tarn-et-Garonne. The pensioner explained his gesture in an interview with The Dispatch. “I did this for the autism cause. I have a 13 year old child, William, who has profound autism. He doesn’t speak at all”, he said. And to add: “Eric Zemmour’s remarks about disabled children deeply shocked me.”
The candidate of the Reconquest party! in the presidential election had caused controversy, last January, by denouncing “the obsession with inclusion” disabled children. According to him, people with disabilities should be cared for in specialized establishments. “I think the obsession with inclusion is a bad way for other children and for those children who are, the poor, completely overwhelmed by other children”, he said. Jean-Paul Mayanobe believes that his gesture was “a civic act”stating that he wanted “open a debate on autism in France”.

After his egg throw, the retiree met Éric Zemmour. “Without saying hello to me directly: ‘Why did you do that?'”, reports Jean-Paul Mayanobe. After apologizing, he told the former polemicist that he felt that its position on children with disabilities is “untenable”. And to add: “If we listen to it, we go back to the 18th century when autistic children were locked up in asylums.” An exchange that does not seem to have been fruitful for this father of an autistic child: “He wanted to talk to me, I thought I could have a real exchange. Looking back, (…) I think he wanted to use me for his communication to appear less ridiculous.” And to conclude: “Maybe I shouldn’t have gone…I thought this action would raise awareness for the cause of autism.”
