After posing as a grieving widower for several months, her husband, Jonathann Daval, quickly became the main suspect in the murder of his 29-year-old wife. He was finally sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment by the Assize Court of Vesoul, on November 20, 2020, for having strangled him at their home in Gray-la-Ville (Haute-Saône), before burning his body in a wood.
Still behind bars, Jonathann Daval filed a complaint, via his lawyers, on February 19, for “public defamation” against Isabelle Fouillot and Stéphanie Gay, the mother and sister of Alexia Daval, because of certain comments made by the latter. in the fourth episode of the television series Alexia our daughter, broadcast by Canal+. “What we criticize Isabelle Fouillot and Stéphanie Gay is for making Jonathann Daval look like a poisoner and an assassin through this show”the lawyer explained to France 3. According to him, they accuse him “of having prepared all of this for some time, of having caused Alexia’s miscarriage and of having poisoned her little by little before her death. But against all odds, Jonathann Daval decided that he no longer wanted to file a complaint against his wife’s family, according to BFMTV. The complaint was therefore closed without further action, indicated the Vesoul public prosecutor’s office this Tuesday March 26. “Upon receipt of this complaint, an investigation was ordered.”revealed Arnaud Grécourt, the public prosecutor of Haute-Saône, in a press release.

Recently interviewed by the gendarmes responsible for the investigation, Jonathann Daval clarified that he had not “watched the documentary during which the defamatory remarks were allegedly made”added the magistrate. “He does not want to cause any further harm, with a new complaint, to the Fouillot family.” According to lawyer Randall Schwerdorffer, his client changed his mind between the initial filing of the complaint and the time of his hearing by the gendarmes. “I think the hysteria that followed the complaint affected him and he wants it to stop.”he told AFP.

“Given Mr. Jonathann Daval’s desire, expressed ‘several times’, not to file a complaint for these acts of defamation, no criminal proceedings can be taken”, said the prosecutor. On the other hand, for his part, the 40-year-old man is the subject of a complaint for “slanderous denunciation” against his in-laws, in particular for having accused his brother-in-law of having killed Alexia before to recognize his lie. For this, he must appear on April 10 before the Besançon criminal court.
