An Affair of Honor by Vincent Perez is broadcast this evening on Canal+, an opportunity to take stock of Roschdy Zem’s projects.
The film An Affair of Honor by Vincent Perez is broadcast this evening on Canal+. Led by Roschdy Zem, Doria Tillier, Vincent Perez and Guillaume Gallienne, this drama, which mixes real facts and fiction, takes place in Paris in 1887. At that time, only the duel was authentic to defend one’s honor. Clément Lacaze, a charismatic fencing master, finds himself caught in a spiral of destructive violence. He meets Marie-Rose Astié, a feminist ahead of her time, and decides to teach her the complex art of dueling. They will face provocations and join forces to defend their respective honor.
The opportunity to take stock of the projects of actor and director Roschdy Zem. To date, the winner of the César for best actor for his role in Roubaix, une Lumière has no other projects announced as a director. On the other hand, Roschdy Zem has five films planned as an actor.
A novel adaptation
From January 8, 2025, he will be in the cast of Winter in Sokcho by Koya Kamura. Adapted from the novel by Elisa Shua Dusapin, the film takes place in Sokcho, a small seaside town in South Korea. Soo-Ha (Bella Kim), 23, leads a routine life, between her visits to her mother, a fish seller, and her relationship with her boyfriend, Jun-oh. The arrival of a Frenchman, Yan Kerrand (Roschdy Zem), in the small pension where Soo-Ha works, awakens in her questions about her own identity and about her French father about whom she knows almost nothing. While winter numbs the city, Soo-Ha and Yan Kerrand will observe each other, gauge each other, try to communicate with their own means and forge a fragile bond.
An action movie
The actor, recently starring in the action film Elyas, will then be in the new film by Martin Bourboulon (The Three Musketeers), 13 days, 13 nights. Adapted from the autobiographical novel by Commander Mohamed Bida, “13 days, 13 nights in the hell of Kabul“, the story takes place in Kabul, August 15, 2021. As American troops prepare to leave the territory, the Taliban storm the capital and seize power. Amid the chaos, commander Mohamed Bida and his men provide security for the French embassy, which is still open. Trapped, Commander Bida decides to negotiate with the Taliban to organize a last-ditch convoy with the help of Eva, a young translator. Franco-Afghan then begins a race against time to lead the evacuees to the airport and escape the hell of Kabul before it is too late.
Roschdy Zem plays the Commander and shares the poster with Lyna Khoudri – who reunites with the filmmaker after having played Constance in D’Artagnan and Milady –, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Christophe Montez from the Comédie-Française. Filming took place last summer in Morocco, in Casablanca and its surroundings. This action film, distributed by Pathé, will be released in 2025.
Roschdy Zem will be Yves Montand!
A rich year for Roschdy Zem, since the actor is announced next summer in the casting of I Who Loved You by Diane Kurys. In the pipeline for more than 10 years, this biopic dedicated to stars Yves Montand and Simone Signoret will finally see the light of day. Roschdy Zem will therefore lend his features to Montand, while the actress Marina Foïs (with whom he has already collaborated in Happy Few in 2010 and for the César Ceremony in 2021) will play Simone Signoret. For director Diane Kurys, this will not be a first for the production of a biopic, since she had directed Sagan in 2008. No synopsis has yet been revealed.
The duo formed by Roschdy Zem and Marina Foïs will meet again very shortly after Me Who Loved You for the film by Brazilian director Fellipe Barbosa, Leila and the Night. The feature film will focus on the life of photographer Leila Alaoui, who died on January 15, 2016 during the attacks in Ouagadougou, where she was reporting for Amnesty International. Leila and the Night is adapted from the book “Off to Ouaga, Journal of an impossible mourning” by Abdelaziz Belhassan Alaoui, Leila’s father. The film will soon be released under the Condor Films banner.
Finally, the French actor will be starring in Déchaînées alongside Sandrine Kiberlain and Élodie Bouchez. This feature-length dance film set in prison is directed by Valérie Muller and choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj. The film will be distributed by Le Pacte in 2025.
