Braun curbs expectations of the federal-state talks
The Federal Constitutional Court approves the lockdown measures in retrospect. However, Chancellor Braun does not expect the federal-state meeting to derive new measures from this today.
Before today’s Bund-Länder meeting, the Executive Minister of the Chancellery, Helge Braun, dampened expectations and emphasized that it was only a purely informal meeting. “There are no resolutions planned for today. That was the prerequisite for the meeting.” When asked why the meeting was not used anyway to establish a common line, Braun said: “I can only say that they agreed in advance to meet informally. But I have been calling for a formal prime ministerial conference for days, and that we agree on an emergency brake. “
The executive head of the Chancellery pointed out that there are two options for an emergency brake, a joint agreement between the federal government and all states or a federal regulation. Braun currently considers a general lockdown to be disproportionate: “We have a completely different situation today. We have a lot of rapid tests, enough FFP2 masks and we have vaccination as an option.” Therefore, measures that were taken a year ago would no longer be necessary, said Braun. “The prerequisite is that we use the three options that are available to us consistently,” said the CDU politician.
Many measures could already be taken by the federal states, but not every federal state is exhausting its toolkit. When asked whether the countries are wasting a lot of time at the moment, Braun said: “The fact that in recent weeks there has always been talk that everyone can decide individually and that one does not have to agree together, I see as a de-solidarization of the corona policy. ” From Braun’s point of view, it is unacceptable that it would increasingly be a question of blaming each other.
