Dazed Brandt removed after the collision
In the 66th minute of the top match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Julian Brandt and Dayot Upamecano rush their heads together. Both players go down and have to be treated for minutes by the doctors. Brandt even has to be transported away.
In the fifth minute of the game, Julian Brandt scored a wonderful 1-0 lead for his BVB against FC Bayern in the top Bundesliga game. A good hour later, the Dortmund resident rushes his head full with the head of Munich’s Dayot Upamecano in an air duel. Both professionals go straight to the ground, Brandt in particular falls unhappy on the lawn and remains dazed.
Immediately there is an outcry from everyone involved on the lawn, the players call for the emergency doctors on the sidelines, arguing wildly. For minutes, both professionals are treated on the field, the remaining kickers form a cluster around them and look worried. Anxious looks to recognize each other at the fans in the stadium. Upamecano can finally get up again and continue playing. Julian Brandt, however, continues to lie motionless on the floor and finally has to be transported away on a stretcher.
Brandt choirs throughout the group, both teams applaud cheerfully: The 15,000 spectators fear when Brandt is carried off the field, the Dortmund-based man sits up slightly, but initially sends no sign of the all-clear to the outside world. “Get well soon, @JulianBrandt !!!”, Borussia Dortmund wrote on Twitter, but has not yet given any further information about his state of health.
Meanwhile, world footballer Robert Lewandowski set his next record: After his two goals in Dortmund, the striker from the champions from Munich is the player with the most away goals in the Bundesliga. Lewandowski scored his 117th and 118th league goals abroad against BVB and passed Schalke legend Klaus Fischer (117). The 33-year-old also scored his 26th goal in the 25th competitive game against his ex-club Dortmund. Lewandowski did not meet any other club more often.
