In fifteen years, the side effects of drugs have increased by 136%. The most implicated products are anticancer drugs followed by anticoagulants.

Alert ! The side effects of drugs, severe enough to be admitted to hospital, are on the rise in France in adults and children. Their share has increased from 3.6% to 8.5% of the total number of days spent in a care establishment in fifteen years. That’s an increase of 136%. From 144,000 per year in France, the number of people hospitalized because of an adverse drug effect jumped to 212,500. The number of deaths caused by these accidents, after one month of follow-up, is estimated at 2,760 annually. An extremely important figure, compared, for example, to the 2,700 deaths of babies under 1 year old or the 3,000 killed on the roads.
