The Vorarlberg State Warning Center warns of heavy rain at the weekend. From Sunday to Monday inclusive, heavy thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds are to be expected across the country, according to a statement on Friday afternoon. The situation is similar for Tyrol – due to the expected heavy rainfall, there is even a flood warning in parts of the country.

Due to the high temperatures of the past few days, the susceptibility to thunderstorms in the country is high, according to the experts in Vorarlberg. On Sunday, a cold front will bring significant cooling with thunderstorms. Rainfall of 100 to 150 liters per square meter, sometimes over 200 liters per square meter, is forecast for Sunday and Monday, according to the state warning center. The largest amounts of precipitation are to be expected in the Rhine Valley and Bregenzerwald. In the upper reaches and headwaters of the Rhine, the models sometimes showed more than 250 liters of rain per square meter. Based on the available precipitation forecasts from Geosphere Austria, an increase in the water flow to the flood area was possible from Sunday night, it was warned. The snow line could drop to around 2,000 meters from Sunday to Monday. In view of the weather conditions, appeals were made to adjust the driving speed to the road conditions, to expect aquaplaning and to plan for time losses or restrictions in road and rail traffic. Thunderstorms bring cooling to the east At the beginning of the weekend, large parts of Austria are still with bathing weather to reckon with.
