If the heating can’t cope with the icy outside temperatures, these five life hacks will quickly help frostbite.

In icy temperatures, the heating – especially in old buildings – doesn’t always keep up. With a few life hacks you can still keep your own four walls warm without making the electricity and heating bills glow.

Heat kitchen with oven

For example, the residual heat from the oven can be used in the kitchen. Simply leave the oven door open after lunch has been baked in it. The residual heat is distributed so quickly in the room and the thermometer rises again. For the sake of the environment, you should only use this life hack if the oven has already been put into operation.

Warm candlelight

Candlelight and tea lights can quickly provide warmth, especially in small rooms. A so-called tea light oven, which looks similar to a conventional ceramic flower pot, is particularly helpful. This gets about 80 to 90 degrees warm and that with only three tea lights. The candles also create a cozy atmosphere.

More clothes

Sounds simple, but it is effective: more clothing automatically warms our body. The so-called onion look helps here, i.e. putting together several layers of clothing. Use thermal underwear or tights as the first layer. Thick socks, for example made of alpaca wool, also ensure warm feet. It is able to retain body heat better at low temperatures.

More comfort with carpeted floors

Carpets not only make your home look more comfortable. They also reduce heat loss. Our tip: place cork mats under the carpet as an insulating layer. This ensures that the apartment stays warm longer.

close blinds

If the windows are poorly insulated, it helps to close the blinds. Temperatures are dropping below zero, especially at night. Effective alternatives are thick curtains in front of the windows. However, they should not cover the radiator.
