Heavy thunderstorm – mudslides in Tyrol: 15 houses cut off

Due to a strong thunderstorm, earth masses on the southeast side of the Hohe Warte in the Tux Alps in Tyrol loosened on Saturday evening. 15 houses were cut off as a result.

On Saturday evening, the strong thunderstorm triggered a mudslide in Schmirn: Earth masses on the southeast side of the Hohe Warte in the Tux Alps came apart. However, these were diverted from the Ladins and Kasern fractions by the earth dam that had been built and flowed into the Kluppenbach.

All traffic blocked
The Schirntalstrasse was completely buried over a length of around 50 meters and a height of around one meter due to the mudslide. It is currently closed to all traffic. The Schmirn fire brigade and the Matrei road maintenance depot were in action for hours. Fortunately, no people were injured.

Storm in Salzburg too
The fire brigades in Salzburg were also challenged on Saturday evening – especially in Pinzgau and Pongau. The Floriani moved out to about a hundred deployment sites.
