Heidi Klum has lived in the USA for many years. But when it comes to Christmas traditions, the supermodel’s German roots come through – much to the amazement of their American neighbors.

Christmas time is sacred to Heidi Klum, 48. The shooting for the 17th season “Germany’s Next Top Model” is paused for three weeks, so that “everyone can go to their family and we can prepare for our new location,” the model mom explains in an interview with “spot on news” on the set Mykonos.

Heidi Klum relies on German Christmas customs

She goes back to her adopted home Los Angeles, where Heidi, together with her husband Tom Kaulitz, 32, and their four children Leni, 17, Henry, 16, Johan, 15, and Lou, 12, are already preparing everything for Christmas. Above all, she relies on typical German traditions. “We press cloves into oranges, the windows are sprayed white, stars cut out, cookies baked and a lot of mulled wine is drunk,” she reveals.

Your American neighbors are astonished by such traditions. “The Americans think that the oranges and cloves are crazy,” says Heidi. “Just like our chandelier with blown out Easter eggs.”

“We celebrate in German – on Christmas Eve”

Although the 48-year-old has lived in the USA for many years, and her children even grew up there, according to German custom, gifts are also given on Christmas Eve. In America, gifts are traditionally opened on the morning of December 25th. “We celebrate in German – on Christmas Eve,” explains the “GNTM” jury member and continues: “So we all get up very early on the 24th, because the youngest can’t wait. Then we unpack the presents and spend the whole day busy in order to.

Christmas pajamas and hats are a must and the fireplace is also turned on, despite not so wintry temperatures in LA. “And there is a lot to eat,” adds Heidi Klum.
